The walk from Paleochora to Sougia is part of the European hiking route E4.
The E4 path is marked and well maintained.

  • From the centre of Paleochora, take the asphalt road towards the eastern beach of Gialiskari.
  • When you reach the junction to Anidri village, take the dirt road to your right, moving parallel to the sea.
  • The dirt road ends at the exquisite beach of Gialiskari.
  • Continue to walk towards east, always parallel to the sea.
  • After approximately 11km you will have reached Lissos and the sanctuary of Asclepius, dating back to the 3rd century B.C.
  • The descending path to Sougia begins directly next to the ruins.
  • The final part of the trip, from Lissos to Sougia, continues through a beautiful gorge.

Estimated time: 6 hours
Best season: Spring through Autumn
Difficulty: No particular difficulties
Tip: Additional drinking water is necessary.
Starting from Paleochora early in the morning, you will avoid the heat, while you have plenty of time if you take the afternoon boat back to Paleochora.
