The unique in Crete gorge of Richtis lies 15km west of Sitia and 54km east of Agios Nikolaos.
It is among the gorges which began forming two million years ago, during the early Pleistocene epoch when Crete took its current size.
The gorge starts just outside the village of Exo Mouliana and ends after 3km at the homonymous beach, east of the village of Kalabro.
The route starts from the stone-arched bridge of Lachanas built in the 19th century.
Apart from the rich vegetation (walnut trees, platans, oleanders, sage, fig trees and few palm trees) that can be observed on both banks along the way, the visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy at least a waterfall of about 20 meters high!
Also remarkable are the old water mills you will meet halfway.
The gorge ends at the pebbly beach of Richtis, which features several tamarisk trees, seats and tables made of stone as well as a fountain with water all year round.
