The Natural History Museum of Crete in Heraklion is a department of the Faculty of Science of the University of Crete.
The museum pursues interest in the following:
- Study and Management of the Natural Environment of Crete
- Promotion of the unique nature of habitats in Crete and the Mediterranean
- Public awareness and sensitiveness, school education and lifelong learning on environmental issues (interactive programs and workshops for schools, children, youth, and families and training seminars, conferences and lectures for general public).
- Set up a network of Ecological Museums in Greece and throughout the Eastern Mediterranean.
The museum is based in a restored industrial building that used to house an electricity power plant.
Its impressive growth over the last decade reflects the competence and professionalism of its staff, as well as the growing need in society for proper information concerning the environment.

Opening hours: Monday- Friday: 09:00 - 15:00 Weekends: 10:00 - 18:00. Admissions: Adults: 6€. Children older than 3 years old: 4€
