Moni Gonia Monastery or Monastery of Panagia Odigitria is an orthodox Venetian style monastery located 1 km north of Kolymbari and about 24 km west of Chania town, on Rodopos peninsula in the south-western coast of Crete.
It was initially founded in the 9th century and was originally dedicated to Aghios Georghios (i.e St. George).
Today it is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin.
The monastery is a place which definitely worths a visit.
Scenic and isolated pebbly coves with crystal blue waters are formed around it, although access is possible only by private or rented cars and motorbikes.
