It is a beach that streches for many kilometres, mostly preferred by locals.

Notes
The beach as all its neighbouring ones hosts the loggerhead Caretta caretta nests during the summer months.
The eastern part of the beach is called Katalyki offering swimming facilities and water sports.
*The western part is more secluded and unorganised with a few tamarisk trees offering shade and mostly preferred by naturists.
How to reach Kokkinos Pyrgos
Kokkinos Pyrgos is accessible by rented cars and motorbikes.
If you choose to drive from Heraklion, follow the new National road (E75) towards Rethymno to the east.
After about 6km, take the exit to Tymbaki and Mires and follow the signs.
