Situated 67 kilometres south of the city of Heraklion, Kalamaki is a small seaside village with accommodation facilities, restaurants and fish taverns, numerous cafes and bars, all sea front and at affordable prices.
Kalamaki is situated in the Messara bay which features one of the longest beaches in Crete and its privileged position is celebrated by foreigners and locals since they have the opportunity to enjoy swimming in numerous beaches, visit the neighbouring picturesque villages of Kamilari and Pitsidia, enjoy the nightlife of nearby Matala and Agia Galini and visit the major archaeological sites in the area (Phaistos, Agia Triada, Gortys).
How to get to Kalamaki:
During the summer months there are regular buses to Mires and Tympaki.
From there you have to either rent a car or take a taxi.
The distance is a short one and therefore it will not cost much.
From Heraklion to Kalamaki:
Kalamaki is 67 km southwest of Heraklion, between Tymbaki and Matala.
Take the road from Heraklion to Mires and Tymbaki.
Just before Tymbaki, turn left onto the road to Kamilari.
You will later see a sign to Kalamaki which is 3 km west of Kamilari.
From Chania and Rethymno to Kalamaki:
Take the Spili – Agia Galini – Tymbaki road. About 2 km after Tymbaki turn right towards Kamilari and Kalamaki.
