The village of Sougia is located in a distance of 70 roughly km south-western of Chania.
Although a small village, Sougia has been a popular destination to both locals and travelers from the 70’s due to its tranquility, perfect beach and the amazingly beautiful walks one can enjoy in the region.
The beach at Sougia starts from the jetty to the west, with available umbrellas and sun beds and ends in a lovely secluded cove without the above facilities, after approximately 1,5 kilometres.
Tamarisk trees can be found along the beach though, where you can camp or hide from the sun.
Sougia may be a serene, peaceful place but that does not imply that the village lacks any of the amenities needed for a holiday.
It does provide visitors with hotels, apartments to rent, rooms, taverns and restaurants of high quality, coffee shops, bars, a mini market, and a kiosk.
However, no banks, ATMs, hospitals, pharmacies, or a gas station can be found in the village.
Nevertheless Sougia may not be a luxurious resort, it has always been one of the most appealing destinations in west Crete, mostly because of the distinctive quality of serenity of the village cherished by both locals and guests.
The perfect choice for travelers who seek amazingly beautiful surroundings, crystal clear waters to swim and an ideal place for naturists and those interested in archeological sites.
