Notes
The wide beach of Koutsounari has wonderful coarse grey sand, but in the sea it turns into fine sand.
The eastern part isn’t organised, and as a result it is much more isolated and quiet.
However, the beach is very well organised near the hotels and beach bars.
Due to its length Koutsounari beach never gets too crowded.
Its only negative aspect is that it is exposed to the winds and therefore often features large waves.
How to get to Koutsounari
Koutsounari beach is accessible with public buses from Ierapetra and by rented or private cars and motorbikes.
If you choose to drive from Agios Nikolaos or Sitia, follow the national road towards Ierapetra to the south and head east of the latter.
