Sougia

Sougia located 70 kilometers southwest of the city of Chania, in the gorge of Agia Irini. It name came from the ancient city Sigion. The name comes from the word “sis” = hog, pig, choiropoli. In ancient times the port of Dorian Elyros city, which in ancient times was enough bloom to mint its own coins, but was destroyed by the Saracens, Arabs in the 9th century AD.
